NCS Juniors Notch Impressive Results at National and Regional Championships

Congratulations to the juniors from our area who took titles at the August Mid-Atlantic and South-East Regional Junior Championships or who placed well at the National Junior Championship Tournament (JCT) last weekend. At the regional championships that were played in Atlanta, Arjith Mathew (BU15), Trinity Moshi (GU13), and Elise Kang (GU15) took home first place trophies. Sami Garside reached the BU15 final, while Daniel King (BU17) and Makeda Moshi (GU15) took third. At the JCT in San Francisco, which attracted the top-ranked USA juniors, Daniel King pulled off repeated five-game upsets in the main draw. Playing in his first-ever JCT, and seeded in the bottom group at 33/48, King reached the BU17 quarters, a nearly unheard of feat, and finshed sixth.  Rohan Bhatia also reached the BU17 quarters, a personal best JCT result for him as well. Tim Lasusa Named Inaugural Georgetown Squash Head Coach

Francis X. Rienzo Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lee Reed announced the hiring of Tim Lasusa as the inaugural head coach of the squash program. Lasusa comes to the Hilltop after spending the past four seasons as an assistant coach at Yale. "I am excited and honored to be joining the Georgetown community," Lasusa said. "Georgetown has an incredible tradition of excellence in college athletics and I am thrilled to be a part of the inaugural varsity season for squash. I would like to thank Lee Reed and Kelli Myers for this amazing opportunity and I look forward to beginning this journey with the team." In Memory of Jeremy Barnes

The members of the National Capital Squash Board of Directors are greatly saddened to announce that Jeremy Barnes passed away on July 1. Jeremy was the beloved son of Rod and Connie Barnes, brother to Jacqueline and a dear friend to our squash community. Rod and Connie have told us that while they grieve that Jeremy’s life was marked by persistent illness and tragically cut short, we should console ourselves with the fact he still managed to pack more in his 23 years than many would dare in a lifetime, and that now the struggle with his difficulties is over, he is finally at peace. Lacy Cup Slated for March 28

The annual grudge match between Baltimore and Washington DC is slated for March 28th between 2-5 pm at Squash on Fire. This is a one-match team format.  The visiting team sends its line-up and the host team matches that line up with appropriate opponents.  We play one match, then have a social at a local watering hole. Keep your eyes out for an email from AJ Copeland requesting players.

US Masters Comes to DC again

For the second consecutive year, the US Squash Masters Championships will be hosted at Squash on Fire in April 3-5.  Masters pits players in age groups from 35-85 for a weekend of great squash.  Regardless of the host club, DC always sends a big contingent of players.  With it in our home town, let's see a great DC showing this spring!
