Women’s Squash Night Report

The third annual national Women's Squash Week event was celebrated in style in the National Capital region! More than 35 women attended the event at McLean Health and Racquet Club on Tuesday night, September 23. Skill levels of the participants ranged from rank beginners to rusty old ex-varsity hardball players, some of whom have not been seen on a singles court in this area for more than 20  years! Players new to the area and new to the game were able to meet up with other players of similar skill level. Play started with queen-of-the-court to accommodate the large number of players, which segued into rotating 5-point PAR "games". Howe Cup 2014 — Save the date — Nov. 14-16

 The U.S. National Women’s Team Championships will be hosted by the women of National Capital Squash, Nov 14-16, at the McArthur Squash Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. There will be 5-women team draws in the A, B, C, and D divisions, and Doubles draws in the A and B divisions.

Baltimore defeats National Capital in 5-4 Lacy Cup thriller

On Sunday March 30 at the Potomac School courts, a 9-member team of selected National Capital Squash (NCS) women squash players took on their rivals from Baltimore in pursuit of the 2014 Lacy Cup, the annual DC-vs-Baltimore women's team competition. The bottom of the Baltimore ladder consisted of four young ladies from Baltimore's urban squash program, SquashWise. NCS newcomer and #9 player Claire Huschle lost 3-0 to her Baltimore opponent, as did #8 Maureen Wylie. Another NCS newcomer, Elizabeth Holdefer, fought a good battle at the #7 position and ultimately lost 3-1. Ladies Squash annual Holiday Hit

All women are invited to our annual squash-and-social event for the National Capital area: the women's "Holiday Hit". This year it will be held on Sunday Dec 15, from 4:00-7:00pm, at the brand new (gorgeous!) courts at the McLean Racquet & Health Club, which is located at 1472 Chain Bridge Road, McLean VA. Feel free to wear holiday-appropriate court attire, and bring a snack or beverage to share if you care to (but don't stress about that! -- come even if you don't bring something!). This event is FREE and open to women of all ages and skill levels.

Women’s Squash Night Report

As part of the Women's Squash Week national promotion originated by US Squash, the National Capital Squash event was held on the evening of Wednesday September 25 at the Sports Club/LA in downtown Washington. Approximately 30 women of all ages and skill levels participated in the highly social event that included "Queen of the Court" play at three different skill levels. Women who are new to the game welcomed the opportunity to meet other players, and women new to the District were able to identify other women players at their level. The event was free to participants, and raspberry-colored T-shirts promoting "Women's Squash Week" donated by US Squash were distributed. Women’s Squash Night 6-8:30 PM

Women's Squash Night is scheduled for Wednesday September 25, from 6:00-8:30pm at the Sports Club/LA. Don't miss this highly social event that is a fun way to meet up with fellow players after the summer off-season and "knock some of the rust off". NCS Players Win Two National Titles at US Skill Level Championships

Congratulations to Jose Calderon and Ben Smith, who won the Open 5.5 and Open 4.5 skill level divisions at the national championships, which were held in Baltimore April 5-7. Patrick Harris also reached the finals of the Open 5.0, where he lost a close three game match to the #1 seed. Jose beat Antoine Poulain of Chicago in the four game final. Ben rallied from a 2-1 deficit to Boston's Girish Venkataramani on the way to an 11-9 victory in the fifth game.
