Grunberg wins US title at Masters; O’Hora, Simons-Morton reach finals

National Capital Squash (NCS) players enjoyed playing the US Masters Championship last month at the fantastic new McArthur Squash Center facility at Boars Head (University of Virginia). Congratulations to Carole Grunberg, who took top honors in the Women 55+ division in a tightly contested draw. Results The Gym Head Pro Brian O'Hora reached the finals in the highly competitive Men's 35+ division. Brian dispatched the #2 seed in three easy games, but fell in four games in the final. Bruce Simons-Morton knocked off the Men's 65+ #1 seed in the quarters, with a tremendous comeback after trailing 2-1. He came close, but lost the final in five games. Other notable NCS player results: Men 40+: Jahangir Naseem, semifinalist Women 35/40+: Leslie Connolly, consolations winner Men 50+: Bryce Harding, consolation finalist Men 55+: Raja Arshad, consolation finalist

Howe Cup 2014 — Save the date — Nov. 14-16

 The U.S. National Women’s Team Championships will be hosted by the women of National Capital Squash, Nov 14-16, at the McArthur Squash Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. There will be 5-women team draws in the A, B, C, and D divisions, and Doubles draws in the A and B divisions.

Baltimore defeats National Capital in 5-4 Lacy Cup thriller

On Sunday March 30 at the Potomac School courts, a 9-member team of selected National Capital Squash (NCS) women squash players took on their rivals from Baltimore in pursuit of the 2014 Lacy Cup, the annual DC-vs-Baltimore women's team competition. The bottom of the Baltimore ladder consisted of four young ladies from Baltimore's urban squash program, SquashWise. NCS newcomer and #9 player Claire Huschle lost 3-0 to her Baltimore opponent, as did #8 Maureen Wylie. Another NCS newcomer, Elizabeth Holdefer, fought a good battle at the #7 position and ultimately lost 3-1. Ladies Squash annual Holiday Hit

All women are invited to our annual squash-and-social event for the National Capital area: the women's "Holiday Hit". This year it will be held on Sunday Dec 15, from 4:00-7:00pm, at the brand new (gorgeous!) courts at the McLean Racquet & Health Club, which is located at 1472 Chain Bridge Road, McLean VA. Feel free to wear holiday-appropriate court attire, and bring a snack or beverage to share if you care to (but don't stress about that! -- come even if you don't bring something!). This event is FREE and open to women of all ages and skill levels.

We have prepared four versions of a tournament poster and ask that you print one and display it at your club or school.  Each poster has the same content -- there are large and small versions, and each is available in color or black and white.
