A Unique Opportunity to Play Junior Team Squash

If you’ve never competed on a junior squash team, now is your chance.

You’ll likely find team squash is fun and a great experience. If you hope to play in college someday, this will give you a taste of playing on a team.

Now is a great time to assemble a team. The National Capital Squash (NCS) Board just approved a new sponsorship of high school teams to compete in the US Squash National Interscholastic Team Squash Championships.

This event is open only to teams with students who attend a school without a squash team.

Teams that combine players from two or more schools in the NCS district may receive the sponsorship. Seven players play each match, so most teams use a roster of eight players. Teams are placed in divisions and seeded by skill level, so teams get competitive matches.

The Team Championships are the weekend of February 10 at the Specter Center in Philadelphia, and the tournament is likely an event that will be played on Saturday and Sunday only. There are divisions for boys and girls. Coed teams are allowed but must play in the boys’ division.

US Squash has not scheduled any Gold or JCT tournaments that weekend.

The team entry fee is $650, and the NCS sponsorship is up to $1,000. To be eligible for the full sponsorship, team players must be in the eighth grade or older.

The entry deadline for the tournament is January 24, 2024 at Noon ET. Entries are accepted through Jan. 31, but placement is not guaranteed.

If your team is interested in a sponsorship, please fill out the form below.

If you want to join a team that needs players, please fill out this form, and we will share your interest with other teams looking to complete their roster.

NCS plans to continue this sponsorship for 2025. So if you don’t have time to assemble a team this season, aim for next season.

National Capital Squash will reimburse up to $1,000 for the following expenses: entry fees; travel expenses (train, bus or up to $0.50 per mile for up to two vehicles); and hotel accommodations for up to five rooms per night at up to $140 per night for two nights.  Receipts must be provided in order to receive reimbursement.  No other expenses are eligible for reimbursement.  If a team does not use the full sponsorship amount, it may apply the balance toward its participation in the next championship.

Note: players or their parents or guardian must live in the following cities and counties to be eligible for the team: District of Columbia; Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudon, Prince William and Stafford counties in Virginia; the Cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas and Manassas Park in Virginia; and Charles, Montgomery, and Prince George’s counties in Maryland.
