University Club, SportsClub/LA + Regency combined teams each take two titles in winter league play

In the Premiere Division, Northern Aggression dropped just one individual match in the 2014 playoffs, and beat the finalist Shamrock Rovers (Results, The Gym) 3-1 to win the title.  The starting four players of the winning team in the finals were: Syed Kukhari, Dan Petri, Lekgotla Mosope and Cameron Bahadori.

In Division 2, a combined team from Sports Club/LA and Regency Sport & Health edged Chevy Chase Athletic Club by a 2-1 score in the playoff finals.  Ben Smith, Fabien Sarrran and Cameron Bahadori started for the champions.

Another combined team from Sports Club/LA and Regency Sport & Health won Division 3, defeating the University of Maryland team 4-0 in the final of the playoffs.  Tim Bandel, Tyler Stilwell, Peter Gallagher and Abir Ray started for the division winners.  Abir served as captain for the winning teams in the top three divisions and also serves as VP for League for National Capital Squash.

The University Club team took the title in Division 4, racking up a near perfect 13-1 season, losing only to the runner up Sports Club/LA team.  The top playing starters for the University Club team were Rod Crider, Nathan Maggiotto (team captain), Benjamin Levine, Schuyler Livingston and Scott Glabman.

Three teams had 10-2 records in Division 5 in the regular season, but the Potomac Squash Club team under captainMalcolm Jensen won the title in the closely contested playoffs.  Potomac won the first round over Chevy Chase Athletic Club, splitting two matches but emerging victorious because the team won more individual games, 7 to 6.  That set up a final with fourth-seeded Pentagon, which upset University Club in the semis in a thrilling match decided on individual games won, 10-8.  Potomac won the final by taking 9 individual games to Pentagon’s 7.  Potomac’s Chris Manglitz, Martin Lespada, Otto Louis-Jacques and Hanna Chaudhry played for the champions in the final.

There is also a Division 6, where standings are not kept, but 6 teams based at 5 clubs played nine to ten matches each on weekends and provided much fun and plenty of good matches.

Special thanks also go out to division coordinators Connie Barnes, David Tulchinsky and Andrew Mishkin for helping run a successful season.
