NCS Women Take Howe Cup “C” Title

National Capital Squash sent three teams to Seattle last weekend to compete in the annual U.S. Women’s Team Championship, better known as the Howe Cup. The B team, captained by AJ Copeland, won their pool in round robin play and then lost two tough matches to a strong Seattle team and a tough California team, finishing third in a field of 9 teams. One of two C teams, the National Capital Squashers, captained by Mona Butterfield, won all their matches including a 3-2 nail-biter against the hometown favorite Seattle team in the finals, taking first place.  Congratulations to Squashers Candance Craig, Mary Coolidge, Wendy Hall, Sydney Ku and Cindy Vojtech on the win.  The second C team, captained by Christi Tezak, played valiantly and had fun. Of note, only Seattle had more teams than National Capital Squash in the Howe Cup as a whole.

Women’s Squash Night

Despite the fact that the Event as originally scheduled in September had to be canceled at the last minute due to a water main break, Women’s Squash Night — DC was a resounding success on October 10.  More than 25 women attended and enjoyed connecting with other players at their skill level. The T-shirts donated by US Squash were a hit, as were the Harrow racquet and bag door prizes. Thanks to Sports Club/LA for donating the court time and hosting the event. Women’s Squash Night will be an annual national event going forward.
